George Michael McLaughlin

RANDOLPH – George Michael McLaughlin, 87, of Randolph, passed away on Oct. 14, 2022.

George, or “Mike” as he most often went by, was born on May 7, 1935 to George and Katherine (Kelly) McLaughlin of Gardiner. He spent most of his childhood living in Randolph and graduated from Gardiner High School.

Mike served in the Army as a military police officer. He worked at Lipman’s Poultry in Augusta and as a worm marine digger and retired from the Gardiner Water District where he worked for many years. He often worked two or three jobs to provide for his family.

Mike married his beautiful bride, Violet (Glidden) McLaughlin at the age of 25. They had six kids together, and he raised as his own her two oldest sons by her previous marriage.

Although he worked many jobs during his lifetime, his greatest work was for the Lord Jesus. Mike was an Apostolic Christian with many talents that he used to worship God and to help others. He loved people and he loved to spend time volunteering at the Augusta soup kitchen and at jail ministry. He would often take part in the local parades with his granddaughter and others as an outreach.

Mike loved to spend time with his family, friends, and church family and he loved to meet new people. Mike was an amazing man of God, a wonderful son, friend, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather to many! He will be greatly missed here on Earth but never forgotten! May his love and faith he taught his children and grandchildren live on for generations.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents George and Katherine McLaughlin; his wife, Violet McLaughlin; and his two stepsons, Jeffrey and Glen Moulton.

He leaves behind three siblings, Patty King, Sally Lawrence, Danny McLaughlin; six children, Colleen Moody and husband, Linwood of Gardiner, Maureen Marston of Augusta, George McLaughlin and wife, Michele of Randolph, Kathy French and husband, Bob of Fairfield, Peter McLaughlin and partner, Karry Jackson of Randolph, Jason McLaughlin and wife, Tanya of Windsor; as well as several nieces, nephews; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Apostolic Church, 500 Western Ave. in Augusta where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Riverside Annex Cemetery, Route 27, in Pittston.
