BINGHAM — Murray Street Motorsports, a nonprofit organization, held a benefit mud run and fast track Oct. 15.
A team of volunteers hosted the event to help families in need. Several area businesses sponsored the event.
Due to rain, the fast track event was canceled. Once the rain stopped, spectators and mud trucks started to pile onto the property. People traveled from around Maine and some from out of state, many attendees donated extra money at the gate, according to a news release from Murray Street Motorsports.
The top three trucks in each class were awarded trophies. Many volunteers cooked and made baked goods to sell, while others volunteered a few days of work to get the property ready for the event.
The event raised over $6,000, not including sponsorship money.
The organization plans to write checks to a few local families who have been fighting with an illness, and a young man who is recovering from a severe accident.
