The Whitefield Lions Club has announced this year’s winners of its annual Peace Poster Contest. They are Madyson Glidden of Whitefield, Avery Childs of Palermo, Aurora Peabody of Jefferson Village, Skyler McColet of Chelsea and Zoie Elliot of Windsor.
For more than three decades, Lions clubs around the globe have sponsored a special art contest in schools and youth groups.
Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity, according to a news release from Lynda Despard, club member.
This year’s theme is “Lead with Compassion.” Area schools that participated were in Jefferson, Whitefield, Palermo, Chelsea and Windsor, with support from teachers.
Local community members participated in judging these works of art.
The club held an awards night and spaghetti dinner Oct. 27 that was attended by all the students’ families and teachers. These winners will go on to the state level competition.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
