The Worthington Scholarship Foundation plans to begin accepting applications for the high school graduating class of 2023 on Jan. 1, 2023.
To be eligible to apply for the foundation’s scholarship, students must be Maine residents, and graduating seniors at a participating high school with plans to enroll full-time at a partner college or university.
Selection is based on merit and financial need, according to a news release from Ellie Roy at the Rockland-based foundation.
Students must apply no later than April 15, 2023.
The foundation was founded by Beverly and David Worthington with a core belief about higher education: To help students be successful in achieving their post-secondary goals by providing funding and student support services.
Inspired by the tenacity of Maine students, the Worthington Scholarship Foundation empowers a new generation of Mainers to access post-secondary education through scholarships tailored for them.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
