The column by Rep. Evangelos re: the total mishandling of the Dennis Dechaine case (“Inaction on Dechaine DNA revelation the final straw,” Nov.14) is very much appreciated. Issues of injustice and corruption have certainly been raised, and answers must be pursued.
But Evangelos’s closing sentence — that of contacting U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to intervene — is equally disturbing and alarming. The very last person to be contacted for justice is Merrick Garland. This is the very man who is demonizing concerned parents for speaking up at school board meetings and declaring them to be “domestic terrorists”! If justice is to be the final outcome, I would definitely look somewhere else.
Dennis Dechaine has spent over 30 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. The injustice and coverup must come to an end.
