Daniel Fred McGowan

SKOWHEGAN – It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my adored husband, Dan. Daniel Fred McGowan was born April 23, 1946 in Skowhegan, second son of Walter and Eleanor (Savage) McGowan. Dan graduated from Skowhegan High School class of 1965.

He spent most of his working years as a delivery driver for local businesses. This gave Ratchet great opportunity to scan fields and back yards and to listen for the rumors of abandoned, rusty automobiles that need to feel the bang from his hammer, the spark of his welding rods, and just one more coat of bondo. Dan was proud to have served as a volunteer fireman for the town of Skowhegan.

Dan’s many friends were important to him. Some started as childhood buddies and they become old duffers together. Many shared a love for classic cars, and there was never a place he could go without finding a kindred spirit and someone to chat with.

But without a doubt, his greatest love was his family who cherished Dad and Grampa just as much. Dan is survived by his three children, Dan and Lisa (Ryder) McGowan, Dyan and Chris McGlocklin, and Darci and Mark Hodges. His grandchildren are Danny II and Sara, K, Ian and Kenzie, Holden and Kaitlyn, Jackman, Unity and Dawson, Athena, and Wayne and Ambur. Dan has nine great grandchildren, Brenna, Olive, Tatum, Lily, Jayden, Irek, Shamus, Blaze, and Tristan. One great-great, Scarlett, arrives soon.

Dan is survived by his two brothers and wives, Brian and Barbara and Robert and Lori. He also has many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Ron Prouty and sisters-in-law Sandra White and Rowena Gilman.

In addition to his parents, Dan was predeceased by his grandparents Fred and Jenny McGowan and Arthur and Laura Savage, and his parents-in-law Bob and Helen Prouty and brother-in-law William Bordeau.

Finally, I, Claudine, his wife of 58 years will continue to cherish the memories of our lifelong adventures and to long for our eternal home in heaven. My greatest joy and supreme comfort comes from Dan’s acceptance of Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

At Dan’s request, there will be no funeral service. To celebrate his life and memory, please share an unexpected good deed with someone you know or a complete stranger.

Tu amo, Husband. “See you in the morning.”

Arrangements under the direction and care of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan ME 04976.
