Elmer C. Dalbeck

AUGUSTA – Elmer C. Dalbeck, 90, passed peacefully in his sleep on Dec. 4, 2022 at Sedgewood Commons, Falmouth after a short illness. He was born in Bridgewater, Maine on Feb. 2, 1932 the son of Leland Dalbeck and Ruby (McDonald) Dalbeck.

The family moved to the Augusta area when he was young where he attended Cony High School and later graduated from Kennebec Valley Vocational Institute.

Elmer served honorably as a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was proud of his military service though it caused him pain for the rest of his life.

Elmer held a variety of positions from an usher at The Colonial Theatre to a driver for KVCAP in Augusta. He worked at Hudson Pulp and Paper Co., Hood Dairy as an employee and then bought his own route, Hussey Hardware, CETA and Atlas Supply Company. He worked hard and always gave at least 110-percent to every employer. When he worked for KVCAP driving the “bus”, he cleaned it daily at the house and decorated it for every holiday. His passengers loved him so much that if he missed a day, they’d call his house to check on him.

Elmer loved his family deeply. Family always came first. He adored the love of his life, Louisette, and his four children. When the grandkids came, he was ecstatic! He was always there for his family – attending all the sporting and scouting events he could. If a granddaughter needed a partner for a daddy-daughter dance or to walk her down the aisle, he was there. He loved family gatherings where he always commented “it doesn’t get any better than this”. He loved to dance. He and Louisette did ballroom dancing, square dancing, round dancing … put some dance music on and they were on the floor. He also loved to go out to eat, especially during the years he had with Anita – wait staff at local restaurants knew them by name! Elmer was a talker and made friends wherever he went. He tried his best to be upbeat and supportive of everyone – Go for the Gold he’d say or “Don’t worry, the first hundred years are the hardest!”. He was known to yell out “What A Party!” at any gathering.

He was a member of St. Michael Parish at St. Augustine Catholic Church. His memberships included: Abnake Council #334 Knights of Columbus, Abnaki Assembly #346 4th degree Knights of Columbus, Abnaki Assembly Color Corps, Disabled American Veterans, and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

His wife, Louisette G. (Poulin) Dalbeck, died on March 16, 2006. He was also predeceased by his parents, his brothers, James and John Dalbeck, his sister Leona Russell, his fiancee Anita Allarie and his infant great-granddaughter Hadlee Grace Brown.

Surviving are four daughters: Monique “Nicky” Allen and her husband Vaikko of Augusta, Susan Paradis of Augusta, Michelle Pare and her husband Jonathan of Sidney and Nicole “Coco” Brown and her husband Darryl “Bub” of Hallowell; eight grandchildren: Joshua, Jacob, Jessica, Nicholas, Brittany, Trevor, Dustin and Hunter; eight great-grandchildren: Leah, Landen, Parker, Idahlia, Mikayla, Haden, Aleah and Alex, two sister-in-laws and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
