Charles P. Shorty

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Our youngest brother, Charles P. Shorty, left us unexpectedly on Aug. 23, 2022, in Melbourne, Florida. Chuck was born in Waterville, Maine on March 30, 1967, to Donald and Angela Shorty.

After graduating from Waterville High School (with a few years spent at Caribou High) in 1985, Chuck earned his degree from Navy Nuclear School in Florida in 1988. He went on to serve in the Navy for 12 years as an operator on nuclear submarines as well as a Submarine Nuclear Propulsion Plant Supervisor. He would also, at times, serve as the ship’s chaplain.

Chuck spent 18 years with General Electric, first as commissioning Manager then Global Field Operations, Manager of Commissioning, America’s Pole and ending with the role of Senior Commissioning Manager which took him all over the globe. Most recently, he was employed as Commissioning Manager by PIC Group, Inc. based in Pueblo, Colorado.

Those left behind to miss him dearly are his wife Marta Jonges and son Paul of Melbourne, Florida; son Nicholas of California, son Zachary and granddaughter, Bella, of Florida; and twin sons Christopher and Emmitt of Canada; his father and step-mother, Donald and Florence Shorty of New Hampshire; his two sisters. Catherine (Norman) Madore of Belgrade and Celeste (Ronald) Albert of New Gloucester; two brothers, Ronald (Nancy) Shorty of Fairfield and Thomas (Lynn) Shorty of Gorham; his lifelong friend, James French; several nieces, nephews and cousins; along with many friends he met around the world during his travels.

We take comfort in knowing Chuck is now with our mother, Angela Shorty, and close family friend, Father Chris Piselli.

Chuck lived life to the fullest and always had a smile on his face. He had the “gift of gab” and was open to discussing all topics. He enjoyed watching the Boston Bruins and Dallas Cowboys along with playing golf, video games, karaoke, and spending time with family and friends. He especially looked forward to time on the island of Fuerteventura which he referred to as “paradise”.

Arrangements were made by Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care in Melbourne, Florida. A Celebration of Life followed. Burial will be at a later date.
