Dennis Knowles
DETROIT – On Dec 21, 2022, Dennis, 83, passed away in his favorite rocking chair at home. He was born Oct. 4, 1939, the son of George and Shirley (Bell) Knowles of Pittsfield. He was the husband of 61 years to Cyndra (Wishart) Knowles and dad of two sons, Richard and wife Irene of San Antonio, Texas and Timothy and his wife Charlene of Carmel, Maine.
Dennis graduated from MCI in 1957 and worked in textiles most of his life, the last being Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna as general manager. After the closure of the mill, he opened a small engine repair shop at his home in Detroit. This was a great place for friends to have endless opinionated discussions over a cup of coffee.
Dennis loved his grandchildren, Christopher and Tori Knowles and their daughter Joelle and granddaughter, Carolina Knowles all from Texas, Tanya and Jake Tisdale and their daughters and Freya and Athena, and Kyle Sandberg and fiance Emily Lanzano, all from New Hampshire.
He is survived by his sister and her husband, Sylvia and Darryl Bubar of Texas, with whom he and Cyndra shared many wonderful trips and memorable times together, brother David Knowles of Levant, and sister Linda Milligan and Cary Collamore of Canaan, and sister-in-law and husband Cynthia and Max Raye of Bangor. In addition, a number of special nieces and nephews and coffee buddy, Tom Chadwick.
He was predeceased by his brother Wilbur and wife Nancy, David’s wife, Nancy, and brothers-in-law, Charles and his wife Marilyn Wishart and Clyde Wishart.
At his request, there will not be a funeral at this time. A graveside service and a celebration will be held in Detroit in the summer.
