Michael Burham fled the Warren County jail in the late evening hours of July 6 by climbing on exercise equipment, going through a window, and scaling down a rope fashioned from jail bedding, authorities have said.

Chief David Zibolski said the gunman opened fire Friday afternoon for “no known reason at all” but that he was confident investigators will eventually figure out the motive.

On Friday, Heuermann was charged with murder in three of killings including a Maine woman, and prosecutors called him the prime suspect in a fourth.
