The Margaret Chase Smith Library’s presentation about the Afghan refugee resettlement program is set for noon Friday, Jan. 20, via Zoom.
Mehr Sher, the speaker, is the new statewide environmental reporter on the investigative desk for the Bangor Daily News, as well as a Report for America corps member. She brings a global perspective to the topic, having served as a journalist in Pakistan for six years, according to a news release from the Mid-Maine Global Forum.
Sher received her bachelor’s degree in international relations at North Carolina State University and earned a master’s in investigative reporting from the Columbia School of Journalism.
Because of Sher’s work schedule and the uncertainty of winter weather in Maine, the event will be held via Zoom. To register for the Zoom link, visit midmaineglobalforum.org. A link will be emailed before the lecture.
This program is being offered in conjunction with the Mid-Maine Global Forum. The forum’s theme for the 2022-23 academic year is migrations. To learn about presentations on other migrations besides those of Afghanis, visit the forum’s website.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
