
David Joseph Fontaine
AUGUSTA – David Joseph Fontaine, 74, died on Dec. 18, 2022, following a long illness.
He was born in Augusta on March 17, 1948, the son of the late Rene and Virginia (Beckim) Fontaine.
After graduating from Cony High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in Okinawa, Vietnam, and Indochina, receiving numerous medals. After his service, David married and had one son, Patrick J. Fontaine. He went on to further his education attending the University of Maine in Augusta, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
In addition, David received numerous training certificates in auditing and management through the Maine National Guard. He held positions at the Veteran’s Administration, Togus, Camp Keys, the IRS, the State of Maine, and the State of Massachusetts, eventually retiring from Bath Iron Works on Jan. 2, 2009, where he was recognized for his 29 years of loyal service to the United States Government.
David will be remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humor- his family will miss him dearly.
David was predeceased by his parents.
Surviving is his son, Patrick J. Fontaine; siblings, Linda Landry of Augusta, Jeannine Dumont of Augusta, and Rene Fonatine Jr. of Monmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be on Monday, May 22, 2023, at 2 p.m., at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta.
