Survivors include three sons; Wayne Mathieu of Waterville, Dr. Alan Mathieu and his wife Diane of Westbrook and Thomas Mathieu and his wife Marcia of Frisco, Texas, and one daughter, Karen Wells, and her husband Robert of Carrollton, Texas. Anita also had eight grandchildren; Amy Woolen and Matthew Wells. Brentton, Cameron and Alexander Mathieu, Nicole Lotfey, Megan Mosher and Tom Mathieu; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Notre Dame Church in Waterville at 11 am on May 20, 2023. Burial is at St. Francis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassus Hospice of Scarborough, Maine.
