Marilyn Higgins

EMBDEN POND – Marilyn Higgins, 89, of Embden Pond, passed away, Feb. 12, 2023 with her three children by her side.

She was born to parents Ola and Harry Miller, April 24, 1933, in Solon. Marilyn graduated from Waterville High School in 1951. She received an Associate Degree from what was the Thomas School of Business.

Marilyn worked on the family dairy farm in Canaan where her first two children were born. She then assisted in the start of the family business, Anson Linoleum Center, while raising then, three children. Soon after, she became the secretary for the Madison School District Superintendent’s Office. As the family business grew, Marilyn became the salesperson and accountant.

Marilyn married the late Dexter Higgins in 1953, and lived together in Canaan, Anson, and Embden Pond.

Marilyn was an avid gardener who loved tending to all her plants. She also enjoyed nature including camping, fishing, kayaking, and bird watching. Marilyn was a very active lady who loved horseback riding, ice-skating, and sledding. She always had a good book ready to read on those quieter days as well as putting together puzzles. These hobbies and activities were lovingly shared with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, David Higgins of Hampden, Sandy Higgins and spouse Ron Burch of Embden, and Julie Bullis and spouse Bernie of West Chazy, N.Y. She is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Marilyn was predeceased by her loving husband in 1998. They had been happily married for 44 years.

A small graveside ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 for immediate family and close friends. There will be a celebration of Marilyn’s life held at the Solon Hotel, Solon, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. All who loved her spirit and zest for life are welcomed.
