Steven Totman Blackwell
BANGOR – Steven Totman Blackwell, 67, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, following a tragic fall while walking his dog. He was born on July 27, 1955, in Chevy Chase, Md., the son of Albert and Barbara Blackwell.
Steve graduated from Albright College in 1977 and earned his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1980. That year, he followed his dream to move to Maine, where he had spent memorable childhood summers at his grandparents’ camp on China Lake. There, he started a family and practiced law in Maine for nearly 40 years with various firms, retiring in 2021 from Lanham, Blackwell & Baber P.A. in Bangor. During his career, he was on the Board of Governors of the Maine Trial Lawyers, the Maine State Bar Association, the Penobscot County Bar Association, and the American Association for Justice.
His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, and spending time with his precious dogs, Scout and Tank.
In recent years, Steve took great joy in his part-time job in the kitchen at Dysart’s and cherished his time assisting seasonally with operations at Chandler Lake Camps. He brought joy and love to everyone around him. In a heroic final act, he donated his organs to save the lives of others.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Ericka; son, Rick and wife,Tera, son, Joel and wife Kelly, son, Josh and daughter, Paige; grandchildren Adele, Axle, Sylvia, and Henry; siblings Karen, Cindy, Rick and wife Margaret, Debbie and husband Craig; Ericka’s mother, Leona, and beloved stepfather, Mike; Ericka’s brother, Kevin; Ericka’s father, Pete, stepmother Nancy, and siblings, Doug and Jessica; and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
