Tiger Cub Scout Lucas Doughty of Hartland was the winner during Cub Pack 428’s annual cardboard box sled race, held Feb. 26 at Somerset Elementary School in Hartland.
Doughty slid his box, nicknamed “Lightning,” to the finish ahead of the rest of the pack, earning him the first-place trophy, according to a news release from Chuck Mahaleris, district chairman for the Kennebec Valley District of Scouting.

Second place was captured by Liam Casey of Palmyra. Third place went to Callum Dorais of Madison.
The sleds were built by the Cubs themselves, designed for looks and speed and built for fun.
Cub Pack 428, based in Pittsfield, serves youth from surrounding towns as well.
