Hallowell’s Hall-Dale Elementary School fourth-grade students’ artwork is on display through Saturday, April 22, at The List Salon & Gallery, 19 Oak St. in Augusta.

Every student painted a sunflower piece hanging in the gallery, and their pieces were inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s sunflower painting. Most pieces include a reflection statement handwritten by the student and a price tag students determined were fair, according to a news release from art teacher Cassie Dunphy.
More than 20 pieces have sold so far. The money received goes back to the student artist.
“Students spent hours working on their paintings, and this has been an empowering experience for most of these kids to see themselves as artists who can sell their artwork,” said Dunphy. “Students are shocked to see that strangers want to buy their pieces. Overall it’s been a fun and rewarding experience. I think a fourth-grade tradition may have begun.”
