Messalonskee High School senior Sophie Mihm of Sidney is receiving the 2023 Principal’s Award.
This award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
Mihm’s involvement in school activities are too numerous to mention individually, but a few of those that she has been involved in over the past four years have focused on her musical talents. She is an accomplished pianist as well as composer, as well as her advocacy for the inclusion of all students in the school community, according to a news release from the Oakland school.
Academically, she is a member of the National Honor Society, has received high honors with distinction all four years of high school, and is an Advanced Placement Scholar as well as the recipient of the National Rural and Small Town Recognition Award for Excellence in Academic Achievement.
Mihm has been accepted at University of Illinois-Urban Champaign, Indiana University-Bloomington, and Oberlin College & Conservatory. She plans to study music composition.
