On March 11, members of Venture Crew 2713 provided 24 hours of community service with Midcoast Habitat for Humanity in Rockport.
The efforts of these Scouts will help Habitat for Humanity provide long-lasting and life-changing impacts on households. At the same time the Scouts have an opportunity to serve their communities and develop personal skills, according to a news release from Chuck Mahaleris, district chairman for the Kennebec Valley District of Scouting.
“The Venturing program is a co-ed program for older youth and young adults aged 14 through 20. Venture Crew 2713 is regional with members from Standish, Herman, The Forks, Pittsfield and Hope. Our unit focus is ‘adventure,’” said Venture Crew Advisor Shelley Connolly of Pittsfield.
The crew continually accepts new members; no previous Scouting experience is required.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
