Winthrop Cub Scout Pack 604, which began operations in February, held its Pinewood Derby March 25 at the American Legion post.
The Cubs, aided by an adult, carved their cars from blocks of wood and decorated them before racing them on the track, according to a news release from Chuck Mahaleris, district chairman for the Kennebec Valley District of Scouting.

Webelos Bailey Poisson of Monmouth placed first, with Webelos James Knightly of Winthrop second, and Alice Knightly of Winthrop, a Bear Cub Scout, took third place.
Rosalyn Burns of Winthrop, a Tiger Cub and first grader, won Best of Show. Silas McLeod of Winthrop was the top racer among the Tiger Cubs, and Logan Normandeau of Monmouth won among the Lions kindergarten Cubs.
The winners raced April 1 at the district level at the Christ Episcopal Church in Gardiner.
