PALMYRA – Katherine P. Collamore, 88, died peacefully on April 11, 2023, in Waterville.
Katherine was born on Jan. 21, 1935, in Avon, Maine, the daughter of the late Waylon and Rose (Coulombe) Phillips. She graduated from Waterville High School and established her career as a telephone operator for New England Telephone. She had a 25-year perfect attendance and felt pride in the fact that she handled the very first call at the switchboard when they cut over to dial in March of 1955.
Katie liked to be outdoors. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and mowing her lawn. She and her late husband, Maynard, spent many winters in Orange City, Florida. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren was her favorite. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and had attended the First Universalist Church in Pittsfield.
Katie liked to smile at people, even if she didn’t know them. She said, “If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours.”
She is survived by her three sons: Ned Hood and wife Kathy of Palmyra, Cary Collamore and companion Linda of Canaan, and Terry Collamore and companion Sandy of Palmyra; five grandchildren: Amy, Emily, Katelynn, Molly and Christopher; several great-grandchildren; siblings: Georgia Rancourt, Waylon Phillips Jr, and Lewis Phillips; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Maynard Collamore; sisters: Christine, Alice, and Wanda; brothers: Warren, Nelson, Henry, and infant, Hartley.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the Village Cemetery, Peltoma Ave., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Scott Jones officiating. A gathering will follow at the family home and all are welcome.
