Norma Woodside

HALLOWELL – Norma Woodside, 95, of Hallowell, passed away on April 8, 2023, at the Russell Park Rehabilitation & Living Center in Lewiston. She was born in Randolph on July 31, 1927, to the late Alfred and Stella (Webb) Carter.

Norma proudly graduated at the top of her class (class president!) from Lubec High School in 1935. She was always quick to say…. “there were only 13 people in our graduating class”. After completing high school, Norma moved from Lubec to Hallowell where she met her husband, John Leighton Woodside, with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage.

She was employed at Hall-Dale Elementary School as a secretary for many years. Norma then went on to work for The State of Maine in various other departments. She happily retired after many years of service

Norma loved where she lived. She enjoyed the Rail Trail and spent many hours walking Hallowell. She loved her cats, as well as her time spent with family. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, wooden puzzles, antiquing and going to the ocean. Her favorite places were Ocean Point and Boothbay Harbor, especially on Thursday evenings when the Hallowell Community Band was playing on the Library Lawn.

Norma is survived by John Michael Woodside and Kim Rovzar of Bridgton, Steven Woodside and Roger Erickson of Hallowell, Scott Woodside of North Conway, N.H., Lynne Woodside of Augusta; son-in-law, William Stratton of Midlothian, Va.; three grandchildren, Dustin Woodside, Jon Stratton and Kimberlee Stratton Smith. She also had seven great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Kinlee, Kayslyn, Kyler, Kacey, Samantha and Jonny.

In addition to her parents, Norma was predeceased by her husband John L Woodside; her oldest daughter, Carmen Stratton of Midlothian, Va.; and her cousin William Webb of Belfast.

Per Norma’s request, there will be no services at this time. Her remains will be buried beside her husband John in the Hallowell Cemetery.

A special Thank you to close family friend, Vicki Schmidt of Hebron Maine, whose love, caring and compassion made all the difference to Norma and the family. Words cannot express our love and appreciation. Also, Cheryl Warren who’s love and caring meant more to us all, than she will know. Then the Late Great Linda Anderson, you will be forever missed.
