The Augusta Emergency Overnight Warming Center has to close for the season on Sunday, April 30. The advisory council plans to hold a Stuff the Tent event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at South Parish Congregational Church at 9 Church St.
The event can help guests get what they need to go back to living outdoors until the center reopens next season or they are able to secure other options, according to a news release from Betty St. Hilaire, chairperson of the Augusta Emergency Overnight Warming Center Advisory Council.
Organizers will be collecting critically needed items to protect homeless people from inclement weather such as tents, sleeping bags, tarps, rope, flashlights, batteries, lanterns, cooking utensils, reusable water bottles, First Aid kits, backpacks, propane stoves and canisters, can openers and nonperishable food items.
Those unable to attend the event and want to donate can reach out to South Parish at 207-622-0552 or [email protected] to arrange for drop off or pick up of items.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
