WINTHROP – Alfred D. “Gov” Gilmour, Sr., 86, of Winthrop, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023, after a brief illness. He is the loving husband of the late Dawn Gilmour.

Gov was born July 4, 1936, in Camden, N.J. He is the son of the late John C. Gilmour, Jr. and Eva (Davis) Gilmour. He was a graduate of Haddonfield High School. He went on to further his education at Penn State University where he received his degree in Dairy Science, class of 1958. He resided on the family farm in New Jersey until moving to Winthrop in 1988.

He was involved in the family business, Holly Ravine Farm Dairies, where he was transportation manager and ran milk routes. As the focus of the farm shifted, he added and ran the Bakery Barn. After moving to Winthrop, Gov owned and operated Sunspace Design for several years. He then worked as the Transportation Coordinator for the Kennebec Journal. When asked what his favorite job was, he replied that it had to be delivering boats for Clark Marine in Manchester.

Gov was active in many civic organizations. He was a member of Alpha Chi Rho in college, New Jersey Jay Cees, a District Leader for the Camden County Boy Scouts and Troop Leader for Troop #127. He was a Past Master of Masonic Lodge #178 in New Jersey and was a member of Masonic Lodge #0025 in Readfield. He had a lifelong love of model railroading and enjoyed being an active member of the 3-Railers Model Railroad Club

He is survived by his children Deborah and her partner Richard, Davis and his wife Kathy, CherylAnn and her husband John; and his nieces Ruth and Barbara. He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren Stevie, Taylor and Connor; as well as his great-grandchildren Eva, Nea and Baby G. He is also survived by his brother, Robert and wife Barbara of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; and his Junior Engineer Johnny and his family.

Family and friends will be invited to a “Bon Voyage Celebration” in honor of Gov at a date and time to be announced.
