Donald R. Paradis

PORTLAND – Our beloved brother, Donald R. Paradis, 77, died on Jan. 12, 2023, at the Kelly Home in Portland, of natural causes. The group home is administered by Group Mainstream of Westbrook. Donald was cared for by their professional staff for the last 25 years.

Donald was born on June 11, 1945, in Saco, the son of Adelard and Loretta (Poulin) Paradis. He attended St. Augustine’ School.

On June 20, 1954, “Father’s Day”, Donald and his friend, “Dusty” Nevers, sustained severe injuries when a car hit them as they were resting under a tree on lower State Street. Donald suffered a broken leg and massive brain damage. Dusty’s left arm had to be amputated that evening.

Donald lived in several nursing homes over the years. His years under the care of Group Mainstream were the best.

Donald loved watching westerns and musicals and everything having to do with “Elvis.” Our brother was a “happy” person.

Donald was predeceased by his parents; his older brother, Leon “Pete”; and his niece, Salena (Paradis) Arbour.

He is survived by his sister, Joan (Paradis) Houghton of Yarmouth, his brother Patrick of Augusta; and many nieces and nephews.

A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St. in Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 5, by Father Francis Morin (a friend of the Paradis family) at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 75 Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery on Townsend Road, in Augusta.
