Linwood “Glen” Crowell

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Linwood “Glen” Crowell passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior April 4, 2023 with family at his side in Charleston, S.C.

He was born July 2, 1929 in Waterville. He enlisted in the Navy in 1947 where he received his GED. He served more than 20 years retiring with honor from active duty in 1967. Glen was a Korean and Vietnam War Veteran and received the bronze star.

He then worked for GE for 23 years before medically retiring. During his military and civilian career he trained recruits, wrote many training and equipment submarine and nuclear manuals and books, and received many awards and commendations. He also designed multiple cost saving engine and turbine adaptions still in use today.

He served as a deacon, elder, administrator and treasurer at multiple different churches at different times. He spent many years volunteering by coaching baseball, neighborhood watch captain, and president of the PTA to name a few.

He married the love of his life Betty in 1952; they had five children; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Betty; four children and their spouses; nine grandchildren and their spouses; five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and multiple nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Glen asked donations to be made in his name to the

Wounded Warrior Project.
