William Thomas White

PITTSFIELD – On Thursday, April 27, 2023, William Thomas White, of Pittsfield, was called home at the age of 79. He was surrounded by family. The world has lost a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and outdoorsman.

Bill was born in Waterville, the first son of Basil and Glenna White on Oct. 16, 1943. He lived most of his life in Oakland, only to move to Pittsfield later in life. He was a skilled carpenter, welder, truck driver, pilot, animal control officer, mason, shipbuilder, hunting and trapping safety instructor, and Master Maine guide.

Over the years he worked for Bath Iron Works, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife as well as owning and operating Whites Custom Woodworking, and Western Maine guide service out of his camp on Eustis Ridge. He has appeared in the show North Woods Law, several times, most notably on the episode of a goose roundup in New Sharon, and since 1999 he was a Wildlife Specialist for the USDA.

Aside from the love of his life, his wife Georgette, Bill was passionate about his children and grandchildren. Working in his woodshop building canoes and furniture, attending dance recitals, graduations, sporting events, or taking them hunting and fishing. Bill always had an enjoyable tale to tell about their adventures. Although Bill will be sadly missed, he lives on in all who knew him. Our memories and experiences of Bill will live with each one of us forever.

Bill is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Georgette; his children Robert and wife Kelly, Susan and her husband Richard Mathieu, Harold and his fiancée Rayann Nickerson, and Jeffrey; his grandchildren, Thomas, Brittany, Alex, Ashley, Alyssa, Kianna, Savannah, Tanisha, Michael, Kaleigh, Charlie and Savannah; his great-grandson, Grayson; brother, Colin and wife Nancy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many dear friends, especially Danny and Dale Albert and family.

Bill was predeceased by his parents Basil and Glenna; daughter, Kimberly; and granddaughter, Katie Marie.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday May 21, at the Augusta Elks Lodge, 397 Civic Center Dr., Augusta, beginning at 1 p.m. A private burial will be held on Monday.
