Constance “Connie” (Marsh) Urquhart
WINTHROP – Constance “Connie” (Marsh) Urquhart, 99, died May 4, 2023. A child of the Great Depression, she was born Dec. 3, 1923 in Boston, Mass., daughter of James A. and Gertrude (Rau) Marsh.
She attended schools in Quincy and Braintree, Mass., graduating from Braintree High School in 1941.
During World War II she worked in the offices of the U.S. Navy Department at Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, Mass. and George Lawley Yacht Yard in Neponset, Mass.
A long-time summer resident of Winthrop and Readfield, she moved to Winthrop year-round with her family in 1966. She worked in the office of the Superintendent of Schools in Winthrop and the Maine Department of Human Services as Administrative Assistant to Director of Bureau of Social Services, retiring in 1985.
She was predeceased by her son, Douglas A. Urquhart in 1987; her husband, Richard A. Urquhart in 2005; her sister, Virginia Marsh Abbott in 2006, and her sister, Shirley Marsh Bewley in 2019.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Urquhart of Ashfield, Mass. and Bonnie Urquhart (Motte A. Hatchell) of Readfield; daughter-in-law, Carol (Letourneau) Smedberg of Winthrop; six grandchildren, Susan Gulielmetti of Florence Mass., Christopher Gulielmetti of Huntington, Mass., Heather Urquhart (Patrick Forgue) of Winthrop, Ashley Urquhart of Winthrop, Victoria “Tori” Hatchell and Andrew Hatchell (Kaitlyn Stone) of Readfield; three great-granddaughters, Taylor and Madison Forgue of Winthrop and Leila Ann Gulielmetti of Huntington, Mass.; and a great-grandson, Dawson Hatchell.
Connie’s graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 11 at 2 p.m. at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane in Winthrop. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
