Regarding Eliot Cutler: I find it absolutely amazing that a man who has thousands of images of child pornography on his devices, with children as young as 4 years old being sexually abused, was sentenced to only nine months in jail.
I think that this case with Eliot Cutler should reveal that it is time to revamp our punishments for such crimes. Is it because Cutler has political connections that he gets off so lightly?
It has been reported that he had 142,000 images on his devices. God knows who he shared them with and what damage they may have caused. What about the victims? These children have this on them for the rest of their lives. Nine months in jail is a joke and a slap in the face to Maine society.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
