Gregory W. Cameron

CARMEL – Gregory W. Cameron, 69: Hear ye hear ye, the “Law Guru” passed away on May 27, 2023.

It has been a journey and I want to thank you all for your love and friendships over the years.

My years began in Greenville, Maine, on April 16, 1954.

Although I spent a lot of summers in Greenville working at Harris Drug Store with my Grandmother Ida, I grew up in Trenton Maine. Son of R. Bruce Cameron and Arlene (Harris) Cameron. I graduated from MDI HS in 1972 and went on to Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, graduating in 1977.

I worked in retail pharmacy for several years before needing a break from the piles of paperwork that has overtaken what we do.

Something many of you may not know, I decided to change careers and became a truck driver. My longest trip was Maine to California and back. I did this for about three years but a bit more local.

I decided I missed pharmacy and took at job with the State of Maine as the state’s senior pharmacy inspector which I did for 16 years. I traveled from the top of the state to the bottom. I have met some great people along the way, and I am sure there are a few that are glad I no longer do that job. During this time, I worked with the DEA and FDA and earned my certificate in drug diversion from the Maryland State Police. I was also a Nationally Certified Healthcare Investigator.

In 2011 I met my wife, Darla. I not only was blessed with Darla but her sons, Gregory and Brian, along with their wives, Tabby and Samantha. (Who gave us a few rugrats, Olivia, Sophia, Derek and Hailey that I love and adore that call me Papa). We sold my house in Chelsea and bought a house in Carmel and I began a new career at Husson University. My specialty (and favorite) …Pharmacy Law! This is where I earned my nickname “Law Guru”. What a great class. I did not realize how much I would enjoy teaching and getting to know our future pharmacists. I tried to incorporate as much fun as I could with my sick sense of humor. Some of you got it … some of you did not. My apologies.

I turned my lectures and skills lab over to two dear friends. I knew they would do them justice. Thank you, Kelsey Snow and Jay Singletary.

I have received a few awards over the years. The two that meant the most to me was the “Bowl of Hygeia” (look it up) and the ones I received from the students. “Teacher of the Year” for four years (and I only had my BS degree). Both were a true honor and I thank you all.

That’s the short version. Lots of great things happened along the way and I met some great people. I made a few mistakes, who doesn’t. The screw ups made me stronger.

I will be leaving to join my mother, Arlene (Harris) Cameron and brother Lawrence who passed prior to my day. Along with several other family members.

I leave behind my Wife Darla, who can now travel at will.

I leave my dad, Bruce Cameron of Trenton and his wife Nancy.

My brother Steve and wife Mary of Surry and my sister, Lorri Cameron-Dow and husband Steve of Winterport all behind to clean up the mess.

I leave my expertise in card playing to my dear friend Dick Dyer.

Don’t forget to bring the cards with you when you come to see me later.

A special thank you to Cheryl Willis and Tina Urquhart for all your care these past few months.

There are so many more loved ones to mention but I really need to save money for Darla’s trips. Till we meet again, love to you all.
