LEWISTON — Police said an adult male pedestrian was struck and killed by a commercial vehicle on Main Street midafternoon Friday.
Police closed off the road in both directions between Bates and Park streets for about two hours to reconstruct the scene, according to Police Lt. Derrick St. Laurent.
The Maine State Police commercial vehicle unit responded to inspect the vehicle after the accident, he said, noting that is protocol when a commercial vehicle is involved in a fatal accident.
The road was reopened later in the afternoon.
Police did not release the name of the victim Friday. They were expected to release more information on the incident Saturday.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
