AUGUSTA — Two people were injured Saturday night when a driver traveling the wrong way on Interstate 95 in Augusta crashed into another vehicle, officials said.
State troopers responded at 8:17 p.m. to the crash at mile marker 112 on the southbound side of I-95.
After an initial investigation, police said Sarah Lincoln, 45, of Winthrop entered I-95 southbound from the wrong side and hit a vehicle driven by Julia Kronstrand, 18, of Litchfield.
Kronstrand was seriously injured and taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center, according to police.
Lincoln came out of the crash with minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
Kronstrand’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, officials said, but her condition was not known Monday.
A spokesperson for MaineGeneral said the hospital did not have a patient by that name as of Monday afternoon.
Lincoln is suspected of driving under the influence, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The Augusta Fire Department and the Augusta Police Department also responded and assisted Maine State Police at the scene.
