Theresa B. Rioux

GUILFORD – Theresa (Bartley) Rioux, 96, of Guilford, passed away June 18, 2023 at the Country Villa Retirement Home in Bangor. She was born in Dennistown, Oct. 14, 1926, the fifth of 12 children born to George A. Bartley and Marie Louise Rodrigue.

She was a member and sacristan of Our Lady of the Snow’s Parish and held leadership positions in the Catholic Ladies Club and the American Legion Auxiliary, Connor/Trafton unit of Guilford where she was instrumental as the liaison for Girls State, a responsibility she held in high regard. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, served on the Eastern Agency on Aging Advisory Board and volunteered for many other local events along with her friends. Theresa left school during WW2 to help support the family. She went on to finish her high school education graduating the same year as her son, John.

Theresa was predeceased by Joseph Alfred Rioux, her husband of 65 years.

Theresa is survived by a sister, Rena Maheu of St Georges, Beauce, PQ; six children, George and Jessica of Hanford, Calif., Candace and Ron Nelson of Bangor, Carol and Larry Bolstridge of New Durham, N.H., John of Augusta, Joseph of Hanford, Calif., and Eugene and Cheryl of Holden; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Theresa traveled extensively, through China, Ireland, Egypt and the Holy Land, including many holy sites in Europe. She loved cruises, especially to Alaska and the Caribbean. She enjoyed many crafts, including sewing, knitting, crocheting, cake decorating and flower arranging.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Country Villa Retirement Home and Gentiva Hospice for their care.
