Kenneth F. Johnson

CAMDEN – Kenneth F. Johnson, 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Thursday, May 18, 2023.

Born in Cambridge, Mass., Ken was the only child of Adolph and Erma Carman Johnson. He grew up in the Boston, Mass. area, and graduated from Belmont Hill School. Following high school, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College and later his MBA from the University of Chicago. In June of 1957, Ken married the love of his life, Sandra Weldon.

Ken’s career in business and healthcare consulting took him up and down the entire East coast with a stint in Cleveland, Ohio. Eventually the family settled in Winthrop where they finished raising their three children.

Ken took advantage of life in rural Maine, enjoying cross country skiing, puttering around his barn and yard, and being an avid cheerleader for his kids’ activities.

Once their children flew the nest, Ken and Sandy moved to the Washington, D.C. area and spent 10 years working and enjoying the wonderful cultural offerings of a larger city. When Ken retired, they moved back to their home in Winthrop and spent many happy years entertaining their grandchildren. A few years ago, Ken and Sandy moved to Quarry Hill Senior Community in Camden.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Johnson of Camden; his children, Mark Johnson of Tewksbury, Mass., Kristen Bird of Munich, Germany and Islesboro, Kimberly Kopelman of Littleton, Mass.; along with four grandchildren, Matthew, Sophie, Alexia, and Oliva.

Ken’s family has chosen to remember his life privately.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
