Lester E. Blodgett Jr.
NORRIDGEWOCK – Friday, June 30, 2023, we lost a true Maine Lumberman in Lester E. Blodgett Jr., 87, fighting all the way to the end while living with cancer.
Lester was born in Fairfield, Oct. 10, 1935, and lived most of his life in the woods in and near Moscow. He worked from an early age for over 50 years in numerous woods camps throughout Maine and all New England, wherever he could find work.
Lester was predeceased by his parents; wife, Glenda Blodgett; brothers, Roger and Larry, and sister, Marie E. Bickford.
Lester leaves behind his lifelong partner, Irene Dudley of Norridgewock; son, Lester Blodgett III and spouse Karen of Concord Township; brother, Thayer Blodgett of Clinton, sisters, Laura Brown and Ruby Wallace of Madison; as well as nieces and nephews.
In a published article about Lester in a national papermill publication, “…Foremen for the Maine International Paper Companies say that Lester Jr. is the finest woodman in Maine and all New England. He liked to work by himself, producing 90 cords of wood in a five-day week, tree length and four-foot logs. He was in the woods before 6 a.m., rain or shine, working a ten-hour day in what seems to be effortless slow motion making every move count.”
There is no funeral or memorial planned at this time.
Arrangements provided by Dan & Scott’s Cremation and Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan, Maine.
