Richard Alan Thorndike
CANAAN – Richard passed away on July 4, 2023, with his loyal wife and loving children by his side in his home in Canaan. He was 91 years old.
Richard was known locally as “Mr. T” by many, as he managed the local Kmart from opening day to its’ closing in 1996.
Richard worked hard as a volunteer for the March of Dimes for many years and was a top fund raiser in the state many times. He was a very kind, compassionate and giving man. He donated a kidney anonymously 22 years ago so that someone else would be moved up on the list for a donor. This surely showed his love and compassion for others. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed fishing with his sons and friends.
The last 17 years he managed The Hartland Manor; an apartment complex for the elderly; all of whom were younger than him.
Richard will be sadly missed by his wife, Louse; and his children, Tom and Donald Thorndike, Steven Benedetti, Deborah Aiken and Lisa Benedetti; also, Bob and Jim Marendola, Mary Paine and Valarie Pinkham. He also leaves 22 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life to honor his peaceful passing into heaven to be with his Lord Jesus on July 28 at the Community Center, 62 Elm St., Hartland, at 1 p.m. Arrangements are being made by Dan and Scott’s Cremation and Funeral Services.
