Roger A. Pooler

SKOWHEGAN – Roger A. Pooler, 76, passed away peacefully Friday July 7, 2023, at Redington Fairview Hospital with family by his side.

Roger was born on Jan. 29, 1947, in Winslow, the son of Joseph William Pooler and Mary (Padham) Pooler. Roger graduated from Waterville High School in 1965. After high school he enlisted in the Army National Guard from August 1965 to August 1969, when he was honorably discharged.

For many years he worked for H.T. Winters Company as a carpenter. Then he did some carpentry work for Colby College until 1989 when he joined the Millwright Local Union 1121 and worked until retirement.

Roger was a lifetime member of the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge #2531, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #14 in Fairfield, and a member of the Eagles Club in Skowhegan, where he enjoyed going to the “Breakfast Club”. He was very active and held many offices in the Elks and was also Past Commander of the American Legion.

Roger married Gyneth (Spearrin) Pooler on Aug. 25, 1996. He loved anything to do with his family. His family came first. Some of his favorite past times were dancing. He could always be seen at the Melody Ranch or the Foxs Den on the weekends. He loved playing cribbage, his fishing trips to New York and riding motorcycles.

Roger was predeceased by both his parents; also, his sisters Shirley Downs and Jean Pooler, and by brothers Joseph, Jerry, Bobby, Larry and Leslie Pooler.

Roger is survived by his wife, Gyneth Pooler of Skowhegan; his daughters Stephanie and husband Jeff Aucoin of Fairfield, Denise Pooler and wife Bethany Oliver of Winslow, Tammy and husband Mark Gullifer of Florida, Rachel and husband Rodney Downer of Naples, Laurie and husband Gary Hayer of Standish. He could never forget his grandchildren Vickie Pooler of Waterville, Kirk Keay of Pittsfield, Ashley Davis of South Portland and Josh Hayer of Standish; or his great-grandchildren Damian Colby of Waterville, Maci Keay of Pittsfield and Thea Carter of South Portland; also, Joshua Colby of Waterville, Damian’s father who is special to the family. Surviving siblings include his brother, Roy and his wife Peggy Pooler of Waterville and sister, Sally Pooler of Waterville. Roger had many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends that he was survived by also.

A Celebration of Life will be on Sunday July 30 at 1 p.m. at the Skowhegan Elks Lodge, 21 Silver St., Skowhegan. A graveside service will be held at the Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who have cared for Roger. Also special thanks to the Skowhegan Elks for helping in the planning of celebrating his life.
