Judith Ann (Otis) Ellis

SKOWHEGAN and FORT KENT – The much-loved Judith Ann (Otis) Ellis joined our Heavenly Father on August 9, 2023. She was born on November 6, 1943, last resided in Fort Kent, Maine. She was born in Skowhegan, Maine, Somerset County, attended various elementary schools in Maine, then attended Erskine Academy in South China, Maine for all four years of high school and transitioned to Husson College in Bangor, Maine for Advanced Secretarial Studies. 

Ms. Ellis was the daughter of Alice and Kenneth Otis (both deceased) and step-daughter of Muriel Steeves Otis (deceased), and step-sister of Penny Steeves Carmichael (deceased) and Sandy Fitzhebert. Judith is the oldest sister to Caroline Lewis (husband George – deceased) of Rochester, NH, Patty Vieta Ellis (husband Glen) of Pittston, Maine, and Diana Cochran of Skowhegan, Maine. The devoted mother of Susan Dubay (husband Dale) of Fort Kent, Maine and Michael Ellis (wife Brenda) of Joplin, Missouri. She was the grandmother to six grandchildren; Krystal Gregory (husband Mark) of Springfield, Missouri, Courteney Cary (husband James) of Oronogo, Missouri, Brandon Ellis (wife Grayson) of Seneca, Missouri, Joshua Ellis (wife Megan) of Webb City, Missouri, Dustin Dubay (wife Jennifer) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Samantha Dubay Bickford (husband Lucas) of Portland, Maine. The blessings of family continued with five great-grandchildren: Kadence, Jackson, Melody, Kingston, and Mira Stella. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews and other family members that she always loved and enjoyed greatly. 

As a military wife she was fortunate to travel to Europe and Asia. She enjoyed traveling, took many trips around the nation and world. Judith was artistic – enjoyed painting, earning many ribbons from area local fairs, embroidery, crochet, and wrote poetry and short stories. She loved to bake and often shared her culinary creations with friends and family and thoroughly enjoyed boating and fishing. She was an avid reader of many topics, especially mysteries. She loved animals and ensured the care of her cat, Punkin, with her wonderful neighbor Caraleen. Most importantly she loved her family fiercely, especially her children with all of her heart!

During her lifetime she was a member and leader of the 4-H, Girl Scouts, Baptist Church Sunday School, as well as a Boy Scout Den Leader. She was a past member of the Barber Shop Singers – Adeline’s in Waterville, Rebekah’s, and the Business & Professional Women in Orono, as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution- the Estero Eayres Chapter in Orono, Maine where she served as secretary from 2013-2015. Her career spanned from typing instructor, secretary, security guard, substitute teacher. 

A memorial service will be held at Wheeler Funeral Home in Oakland, Maine at 1 p.m., on Friday, August 25. Friends and relatives are invited to come share in the celebration of her life and share memories and laughs from the past. Afterward, there will be a graveside committal of her ashes.
