WATERVILLE — Search-and-rescue teams scoured the Kennebec River on Thursday for a 42-year-old man who police say may have entered the water earlier in the week and hasn’t been seen since.

It’s believed John Lessard entered the river Monday near the north end of the RiverWalk downtown, Waterville police Sgt. Jason Longley said in a statement.
Search efforts through the week have not turned up any sign of him, Longley said. Police and Fire Department personnel used boats and a drone to search along the river. The Maine Warden Service and Maine Marine Patrol are now leading the investigation. The search now includes the use of divers and an aircraft.
Longley described Lessard as a transient from Waterville.
Police are urging anyone who has information or who may have been in the area on Monday to call Waterville police at 207-680-4700.
Editor’s note: This report was updated Friday, Aug. 25, to correct Lessard’s first name.
