EMBDEN – John Tobin “Jack” Maclean, 95, passed away peacefully and in comfort June 14, 2023, at home with his children by his side.
Born Feb. 13, 1928, in the home of his parents, Daniel H. and Francis (Pray) Maclean, he was the second of four children. Due to the loss of his father, Jack was forced to leave school and work at an early age.
He proudly served as a Merchant Marine during WWII, and later, during the Occupation of Italy.
Upon returning home, he met and married Eleanor Volz in 1950, raising four beautiful children together. They remained a loving couple for 71 years.
Jack worked many years in home heating, though was most proud of his 39 years as a volunteer turned full-time firefighter, EMT and arson investigator. In 1989, he and Eleanor retired to their beloved camp and farm on Embden Pond. There they enjoyed nightly boat rides, watching wildlife, and especially hosting family and friends.
Jack was predeceased by his son, John Jr. He is survived by his two daughters, Jeanne Conroy and Judith Greene, one son, James; six grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
There will be a casual remembrance and celebration of life on Saturday Sept/ 2, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Cracker Box Farm on E. Shore Rd. in Embden. All are welcome.
