Esther Margaret (Cannon) Beck
AUGUSTA – Esther Margaret (Cannon) Beck, 90, passed away on Sept. 1, 2023 at Oak Grove Nursing Home in Waterville.
She was born on July 2, 1933 in Presque Isle to Lawrence Chester Cannon and Dora Case Cannon.
Esther graduated from Presque Isle High School and moved to Long Island, N.Y. to marry Theodore “Ted” Beck whom she met while he was stationed at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone. They were married 59 years before Ted passed in 2013.
For many years Esther worked as a sales clerk for D.W. Adams and Nicholson & Ryan on Water Street in Augusta. She also worked as an Avon lady in the area. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services.
She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Arlene Munroe, and two brothers, Marshall Cannon and Joe Cannon.
Esther is survived by her son, Matthew and his wife Gail; her grandson Kevin Beck and his three children, Landen, Kennedy, and Reagan Beck and their mother, Jen; granddaughter, Kelly Allen and her husband, Michael; her brother, Larry Cannon, and three sisters-in-law, Barbara Schuler, Ann Williams and Bernadine Lechner; several nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the staff at MaineGeneral, Oak Grove Nursing Home, and Beacon Hospice for their care and concern for Esther over the past eight months.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 13 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330. A committal service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. at the chapel at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta, ME 04330.
