Lillian “Betty” Elizabeth White
AUGUSTA – Lillian “Betty” Elizabeth White passed away peacefully at Glenridge Long Term Care facility on Aug. 8, 2023.
She was born to the late John and Lillian (Dawbin) Webber on March 24, 1931. She was their first child and only daughter.
She married Clarence A. White in 1949, and they had their first and only child, JoAnn (White) Huwe.
Betty was very instrumental in the forming of the First Baptist Church food bank in Mt. Vernon, which is still serving families now after 30 years.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her brothers Francis T. Hayes of Syracuse, N.Y., and Harold A. Webber of Readfield, sisters-in-law Helen (Francis) Hayes and Patricia (Ray) Webber.
Betty is survived by her loving daughter, JoAnn Huwe and husband Deland of Greensboro, N.C.; Her grandson, Michael (Melissa) Huwe of Columbus, Ga. and great-grandchildren, Bohden, Lillian “Lilly”, and Audrey; her granddaughter, Amy (Michael) McCollett of Augusta and great-grandchildren, Helaina and Iain; brothers Raymond Webber of Augusta and Walter (Marion) Webber of Rome, N.Y. and sister-in-law, Marlene (Harold) Webber; as well as many nieces, nephews; and close friends.
Betty’s visitation will be held on Friday Sept. 15, from 10 to 11 a.m., a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 321 Pond Rd. in Mt. Vernon. A graveside service will follow immediately after at the Stevens Cemetery on the North Road in Mt. Vernon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
