George Alexander Rivard
MOUNT VERNON – George Alexander Rivard, 71, passed away Sept. 5, 2023, in Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, Mass., following a courageous 24-year battle with Cancer. Born June 4, 1952, in Augusta, son of George and Doris (Thibodeau) Rivard.
George was educated at St. Mary’s School and graduated from Cony High School in 1971. After graduating, George traveled across country with friends, settling in Scottsdale, Ariz. for a couple of years where he attended community college and worked at Motorola. George returned to Maine and settled in Mt. Vernon. George worked in the paper mill industry in Jay until his retirement.
George was an avid sportsman, self-made, self-taught in so many ways. He was never alone, could make a friend in any situation and had a true relationship with our Lord.
George was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Monique.
George is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Shirley J. Rivard; sisters Leah (Bill) Bowden, Terri (Bob) Parquette, and Julie (Jack) Hagan, and brother, Peter Rivard.
George’s memorial service will be held at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home 1 Church St., Augusta, on Wednesday Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. Following the service, a gathering will be held at the Bowden’s Home, 208 Hospital St., Augusta.
