Richard T. Murray

ANSON – Richard T. Murray, 82, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Sept. 16, 2023 at Woodlawn’s Memory Care of Madison. He was born on April 30, 1941 to Germaine (Lamontagne) and Thomas Murray of Anson.

Richard married the love of his life, Ruth B. Harding of Starks, on Dec. 7, 1962 and they enjoyed almost 61 years of marriage. Together they raised a daughter and two sons.

Richard was a family man who loved camping, 4-wheeling, boating, fishing, hunting, and taking long rides to “wherever they would end up for lunch” no matter how many miles away. Richard worked in the woods until he was hired at the Madison Paper Mill in 1965. He started out in the yard and worked his way up to a Millwright operating a crane and working with the Maintenance crew for almost 40 years until his retirement in 2004.

He was predeceased by both parents; a brother, David Murray of Anson, sister-in-law, Barbara Murray of Mercer;and a nephew, Shawn Murray of Anson.

He is survived by, sadly missed, and will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Joanne and husband Randy of Vassalboro, son, Scott and wife Michelle of Anson and son, Thomas and wife Tammy of Anson; two brothers, Reginal Murray of Mercer and Bruce Murray and sister-in-law, Nora of Vassalboro, sister-in-law, Gloria Murray of Anson and sister-in-law, Judy Morgan of Winslow; seven grandchildren, Kayla Murray of North Anson, Skyla Landry and husband Charlie of Starks, Laney Murray and boyfriend Dillan of South Portland, Levi Murray and wife Jenna of Anson, Luke Murray and girlfriend Maddie of Anson, Nicholle Clark and boyfriend Jon of Vassalboro, and Garret Clark of Vassalboro and girlfriend Isabelle; three great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Lincoln, and Charlotte. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews; and friends.

Richard always had a smile and was well liked. He made many friends young and old. He would walk to and from work along the railroad tracks making acquaintances all along the way. He had a gentle and kind way with children and they loved to say hello to him. He would always make them laugh.

Most important to Richard was his family. He was a hard worker and always willing to give help to anyone who needed it. He was a gentleman always opening doors for people, courteous and loving. He also loved animals and they loved him.

A celebration of life, graveside service, will be held on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 12:30 p.m. at the Forest Hill Cemetery, 229 Upper Park St. in Madison.
