Daniel Thomas Crocker
HALLOWELL – Daniel Thomas Crocker, 63, of Hallowell, died peacefully at home on Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, surrounded by family, laughter, and of course, The Beatles.
Dan was born in Pittsfield, Mass., on April 28, 1960, the son of Raymond and Rita (Monterosso) Crocker. He graduated from St. Joseph Central High School in Pittsfield in 1978. Dan received a B.A. in Environmental Science from Colby College in Waterville in 1982, followed by a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a master’s degree in Education (Mathematics) from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minn.
Dan had a diverse professional history. He started his career as a game warden in Berkshire County, Mass., followed by service as Management Analyst for the Maine Arts Commission; Policy Analyst for the Maine State Legislature; Director of Independence Plus at Kennebec Valley Regional Health Agency; Program Developer for Rural Health Centers of Maine; and last, but certainly not least, as a teacher of science, reading, and math at Hall-Dale Middle School.
Dan is survived by his wife of 38 years, Christy Crocker; his son, Nat Crocker, his son, Ben Crocker and wife Kristina, his daughter, Abby St. Johns and husband Zach; and his granddaughters Annie Crocker and Zinnia St. Johns.
Son, husband, father, teacher, friend, actor, musician, avid reader, traveler, and lover of dogs, history, vinyl, and everything baseball: Dan was all these things and more. He will be greatly missed by his family and his personal and professional communities.
A celebration of Dan’s life will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. at Dan and Christy’s home at 31 Summer St. in Hallowell. (Please bring a lawn chair.) An informal open house will follow the service.
