Fernand O. Fortin

RANDOLPH – Fernand O. Fortin, 84, passed away Sept. 20, 2023 at MaineGeneral in Augusta. He was born on Aug. 25, 1939 in St. Evariste, Quebec, Canada.

In 1961, Fern moved to Maine and on June 16, 1962, he married Theresa Morin. In 1989, he became a naturalized citizen and was proud to have earned the right to vote.

Fern was a long-time employee of Bates Manufacturing until their closing, he was the last employee left prior to the mill’s closing. In 1995, he and Theresa moved to Lakeland, Fla. and Fern worked for 25 years as a park manager for Sun Communities.

Fern was a hard working man who was truly a jack of all trades. He enjoyed tinkering on projects in his workshop and playing Sudoku. Fern was a very outgoing person who made friends easily and will be remembered for his good nature. He was the first person in line should anyone need a helping hand, but the last one to ask for help.

He was predeceased by his parents; his infant son, Michael Fortin; and his siblings Clement Fortin, Jean-Guy Fortin, and an infant baby brother.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of 61 years, Theresa Fortin; their children, Lori Sisler, husband Bryan Sr. of South Carolina, and their children, Anthony, Charles, Christa and Bryan; Marc Fortin, his wife Shanon of Minnesota, their children Kylie, and Sydney; Linda Douglas, her husband Mark of Arizona, their children Desiree and Emily; Robert Fortin of West Gardiner, and his children, Jon, Sarah, Elijah, and Sophie; Carol Grenier and her husband, Rick of Chelsea, and their children Joshua and Nathan; siblings Claudette Poulin, Rosane Fortin, Ghislaine Fortin, Clermont Fortin, Ginette Fortin, Gabriel Fortin, Marcel Fortin, and Rene Fortin; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Per Fern’s wishes, no viewing or visitation will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 75 Northern Ave., Augusta, ME 04330. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330.
