READFIELD – Ronald E. Cain, 79, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He is the loving companion of Lorraine C. Rourke with whom he shared 35 years.
Ronald was born May 16, 1944, in Gardiner. He was the son of the late Delmer Cain and Frances (Presby) Hewett. He was a graduate of Winthrop High School.
Ronald was a long-time member of the Army National Guard, serving for over 30 years.
Ron was a kind man and always willing to lend a hand at any time. He enjoyed tinkering around the house, dancing, watching old western movies, watching wrestling and working on cars. Most of all, Ronald loved playing Bingo and he treasured the friends he made at the Bingo Hall.
In addition to his loving companion Lorraine, Ronald is survived by his daughter, Tammy Hebert and her husband Raynald; his brothers, twin brother, Robert Cain, Michael Cain, and Delmer “Del” Cain; his grandchildren, Heather and Heidi Short; and seven great-grandchildren; his cousin, Kathy McManus. Lorraine’s children, Marilyn Ware and her husband Steven, their children Matthew Markham, Christopher Markham and wife Amanda, Nikolas Grover, Natalie Ware, and Christine Lacasce and husband Matthew; Wanda Rose and her daughter Meilinh Nguyen and husband Greg; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ronald was predeceased by his son, Troy Cain, who died in a house fire at the age of 7 and Lorraine’s daughter, Lisa Rourke.
Ronald’s visiting hours will be at the Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop on Thursday, Sept. 28 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Ronald’s Funeral Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be immediately following in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Rd., Augusta at 12 p.m.
