The Naples Methodist Church of Good Fellowship is collecting new teddy bears, stuffed animals and Beanie Babies for children in crisis and patients with memory issues.
The “comforters” will be given to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s and Naples fire/rescue departments to give to the children. Comforters will also be given to the activity director at Woodlands Memory Care in Bridgton to share with the patients.
The church plans to collect the items from Wednesday, Oct. 4 until Saturday, Oct. 28 at its drop-off site at the 1000 Roosevelt Trail church. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays, 4-8 p.m. Thursdays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
A pancake breakfast will be held from 7-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct 14 at the church.
Finally, the church is celebrating “A Blessing of the Bears” and other “critters” on Sunday, Nov. 5 at the United Methodist Church of Good Fellowship. The service begins at 9 a.m.; all are welcome.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
