The town of Jay has announced that all plants, flowers and other decorations, including solar lights, must be removed from all town cemeteries by Sunday, Oct. 15.
After that date, the town’s Public Works Department will remove and dispose of remaining items. This allows the staff to do a complete fall cleanup without damaging or going around personal items.
All items left on graves after this date will be collected and disposed of.
There are two exceptions to this requirement — concrete urns and veterans flags. Concrete urns left on lots must be emptied and turned over to avoid breakage. American or other military flags may remain on lots until one week after Veterans’ Day.
Take any items that are removed and dispose off site.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
