Katherine “Kat” Elizabeth Spiller
AUGUSTA – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving Katherine “Kat” Elizabeth Spiller, 35, who passed away far too soon in a motor vehicle accident on Sept. 21, 2023. She was born in Augusta on Sept. 9, 1988, the daughter of Brenda Spiller of Augusta and David Pepper of Belgrade.
Katherine attended St. Augustine and Cony High School in Augusta. Though she struggled in her senior year, (due to circumstances beyond her control), with the support and encouragement from her special friend, Joselyn, and her own tenacious determination, Kat earned her cap and own in 2007.
Kat was fearless! She took great pride in her work and was always an extremely hard worker. She did not shy away from any opportunity presented to her from milking cows and shoveling poop on a dairy farm to cooking the number one pizza in Augusta at College Carry-Out. Kat was currently working at Olive Garden.
Kat can be best described as a warrior, determined to overcome every obstacle that life threw her way with positivity and a bravery and resilience unmatched. Wherever she went she brought her healing light, laughter and love. Katherine sometimes built up a hard exterior to protect herself, but anyone who personally knew her could see through that into her warm heart and loving soul. She was enjoying five years in recovery and just wanted to live a simple quiet life with her children and family. No matter where she was in her journey she just wanted to love and to be loved.
She was a gifted artist and loved to doodle. She was very articulate and had quite an impressive vocabulary. She could often be found going for long walks at night, finding peace and solace under the stars with her music. She had a sense of humor that would keep you laughing with her funny skits, quick wit and imitations. Kat was very proud of having played field hockey in school and passed that down to Kamryn. They were even teaching Kyrie and would play outside together for hours. Katherine left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to have known her.
The greatest joys and brightest beams in her life were her children, Kamryn (15) and Kyrie (3). She loved being a mom above everything else and her beautiful life will forever be cherished.
In addition to Kamryn and Kyrie she is survived by her mother, Brenda; brother, Nicholas Spiller, sister, Sophia Spiller; father, David; and brother, Chandler Ballard-Pepper; her special Memere Lorraine; aunt, Lisa Spiller and uncle, Jamie Lovell; cousins Maranda, Michael and Khalia; Grammy and Grampy Pepper; as well as many close aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Katherine was very grateful for the time she got to spend with Chandler.
Katherine was predeceased by her Pepere, Howard “Howdy” Spiller, Memere and Pepere Dupuis, and Gram and Grampy Webber; aunts Diane, Cynthia and Hilda, her uncle, Roddy; and cousins Derek, Dominique and Joe.
Carry on Kat’s legacy by reaching out if you know someone who may be struggling, with anything, because in her own words “hands were meant to be held.”
Katherine had a private burial at Holy Family Cemetery in Augusta. A celebration of Kat’s life will be held on Friday, Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Calumet Club, 334 West River Rd. Augusta. Relatives and friends are invited and please bring any photos and personal memories you would like to share with Kat’s family.
Arrangements are in the care of the Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church Street, Augusta where condolences and memories may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the funeral home website by visiting www.khrfuneralhomes.com
